robinparkWigan Athletic XI 3-0 Wigan Reserves
Friendly at Robin Park Arena, Wigan

With no competitive fixture for Wigan Athletic weekend due to the FA Cup quarter-finals, an open-doors exhibition match was held at the Robin Park Arena between two strong Wigan sides both featuring first-teamers and promising young talent. The senior squad were represented by Blues under first team manager GS’s control, while reserves manager Graham barrow took charge of the Blacks.

Blues started with a flat 4-4-2, while Blacks lined up in the first-teams usual 4-1-4-1 formation. Blues gave first-team debuts to Scott Tanser (a youngster taken from Rochdale) and Luke Ainscough who came up through the academy. Blacks featured usual first-team starters Garcia and Beausejour, with Gomez, McArthur, and Crusat looking to catch GS’s eye.

Second half livetweets:

48′ Reginaldo makes an impact with three runs down the right, cutting inside each time. Couple of corners for blues.

54′ Luke Ainscough clips the bar from the edge of the area for the blues. Not quite living up to the RL Wigan cup match on TV right now. :D

55′ Ben Watson (blues) cautioned for bringing down Crusat on the wing.

56′ 1-0 BLUES. Reginaldo cuts inside and his low cross into the box causes havoc, after some pinball, Mauro BOSELLI rifles home.

62′ 2-0 BLUES. McCarthy flicks the ball into to Emmerson BOYCE on the edge of the area to side foot the ball past Schenkel.

63′ Six changes for Blacks: Redmond, Lynch, Buxton, Bingham, Dawson, and Boothman replace Jessua, Garcia, Jones, Gomez, Crusat, and Guille.

70′ Al-Habsi and Caldwell on for Blues, replacing Pollitt and Watson.

81′ Blacks fail to clear a corner, and Caldwell lofts the ball to the back post where Ramis somehow heads wide from two yards.

85′ Di Santo (blues) creates a bit of space and fires a shot away but it’s parried by Schenkel and Reginaldo is inches away with the rebound.

89′ Ryan Watson on for Blacks replacing Jack Phillips who has picked up a knock.

90′ 3-0 BLUES. Caldwell comes forward and lays a neat ball for James MCCARTHY to take one touch before nutmegging Schenkel to wrap it up.
