Saturday 4th May: A breakaway goal from Wigan skipper Gary Caldwell ensured Wigan left the Etihad with all three points against a dominant City side who had already sewn up third spot.
Preview: Manchester City are set to host a Wigan Athletic side clinging on to the hope of European football next season. While City have 3rd place and a spot in the Champions League group stage confirmed, Wigan have slipped to 7th with just three matches left to leapfrog Chelsea and/or Liverpool for their first qualification for continental football in the club’s history. City will be without Mario Balotelli and Pablo Zabaleta as well as long-term absentees Scott Sinclair and Jack Rodwell, while Wigan can bring a fully-fit first team squad to the Etihad Stadium, though top scorer John Guidetti won’t be able to play as part of his loan deal from the hosts.
