Toulon U-20s Final: Chile 0-5 France

Friday 14 June:

Chile and France will meet for the second time in a fortnight in the annual invitational U-20s Toulon Tournament. The hosts have powered their way to the final, scoring 14 goals in four games and conceding just once – an 88th minute consolation for Mexico in the semi-finals. Chile finished second to France at the group stage, losing 0-1 to hosts.

The competition’s top scorer Alexy Bosetti (of Nice) will lead the front-line for France this evening, looking to add to his 5 goals so far in the tournament. He’s likely to be joined upfront by the highly sought-after Yaya Sanogo whose two goals won the semi-final against Mexico.

The third-place playoff was played earlier today, Mexico beating Switzerland 2-1 thanks to two goals from Carlos Fierro.

Highlights from @RealtimeFM:

10′ Tournament top scorer Alexy Bosetti grabs an early opener, flicking home a corner at the near post. That’s his 6th in 5 games.

12′ A double-whammy from France as they take a huge stride to lifting the trophy tonight. Jérôme Roussillon bursts into the box and slots home a second after Bifouma lays the ball off.

56′ Half-time sub Yaya Sanogo fires a 3rd for France, taking a touch before drilling home a left-footed shot from 10:

69′ Steeve Yago makes it 4-0. Chile don’t clear corner, Taider plays the ball back into the box and Yago strikes low:

18 goals in 5 matches at the Toulon Tournament for this French side, only conceded once too: an 88th minute Mexican consolation in the semi.

76′ And this could be number nineteen. Ochoa penalised in the box for a push on Sanogo.

76′ 5-0. Yaya Sanogo takes the penalty himself, his second today and fifth of the tournament.

90+2′ That’s it. France win 5-0 and lift the Toulon Tournament trophy on home soil. An outstanding young team, surely hot favourites for the U-20 World Cup in August. Chile are in their group, you have to feel for them!
