The 2014 UEFA Champions League is now underway, with the road to Lisbon beginning for the four clubs in the Champions First Qualifying Phase. Armenian champions Pyunik and Andorran league winners Santa Coloma both won their first legs 2-0 at home to Boltfelagio (Faroe Islands) and Tre Penne (San Marino) respectively.
The second legs are next Wednesday, with the winners joining 32 other clubs in the Second Qualifying Phase which introduces the champions of the lower-seeded UEFA nations such as Wales, Estonia, Israel, Hungary, etc.
As 3rd place in last season’s Bundesliga, Dortmund will enter at the Group Stage.
The semi finals of the South America Copa Libertadores have begun, with Argentinian champions River Plate seeing off last season’s Mexican runners-up CF América 3-1, with Emanuel Chiacchio putting the hosts in front after just 12 minutes. The second semi-final, the all-Brazilian tie between Fluminese and Vasco da Gama plays tomorrow, with the second legs a week later.
- BVB have withdrawn their contract offer to free agent Marvin Schwäbe. The teenage goalkeeper, released by Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, was originally offered a one-year deal with Dortmund but is widely believed to sign for Heidenheim.
