Leonardo Bittencourt scored the opening goal as Dortmund II drew 1-1 with Accrington Stanley at the Crown Ground this afternoon. Neven Subotic played close to an hour on his comeback from an ankle ligament injury in the match, watched by the senior squad and management. The friendly was the first of seven matches BVB are playing across England and Scotland as part of the club’s pre-season programme.
Leonardo Bittencourt coolly slotted home from a tight angle after just 6 minutes (below), before man-of-the-match Pádraig Amond fired home the equaliser ten minutes later. Dortmund II played 23 players at some point during the match, including Marc Hornschuh, Pierre Kleinheider and Julian Koch. No stand-out performances of note, goal aside, though Marvin Bakalorz will be disappointed with his contribution in the centre of midfield.
As reported earlier in the week, two Brazilian midfielders were offered trials with the club for pre-season. Both 24 year-old Paulo Martinho Pereira dos Santos (‘Paulinho‘) and 25 year-old Roberto Andrade Silva have now joined the squad in England ahead of Tuesday night’s friendly in Doncaster. Paulinho will initially be with the club for a fortnight, while Roberto will stay until the end of pre-season.
