Frank Yallop has left San Jose Earthquakes after seven years at the helm to replace Hans Backe – fired a fortnight ago – at New York Red Bulls. Yallop was unable to bring back the glory days he had previously enjoyed with San Jose during his first spell at the club between 2001-03, where the side won the MLS in 2001 and 2003, and finished runners-up in the Supporters’ Shield in 2002 and 2003.

Transfer News:

Manchester United have increased their summer spending to nearly £70m with the capture of Douglas Costa from Shakhtar Donetsk for £13.5m. The 22 year-old Brazilian midfielder signed a four-year contract and joins fellow new-signings Rodrigo and Andriy Yarmolenko at Old Trafford.

EAFF East Asia Cup:

eaff-asian-cupJapan won their second game of the Final Stage of the 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup with a 3-1 win over China, to sit top of the group with 6 points from 6. Shinji Kagawa opened the scoring on 52 minutes before a brace from Hiroshi Ibusuki either side of a He Méng goal sealed a routine victory.

South Korea play Australia tomorrow.
