Marco Reus made his first appearance in a Dortmund shirt since his hamstring injury earlier this summer, playing 56 minutes in Dortmund’s U23 side in a drab 0-0 draw with a young Tottenham Hotspur Reserves side.
While BVB saw slightly more of the ball in the final third, creativity was low – with questions being asked of U23 manager David Wagner’s insistence on playing a flat 4-4-2 – and the shooting chances Dortmund did carve out were from distance and never particularly troubled Payne in the Spurs goal.
Trialists Roberto and Paulinho joined Marvin Ducksch and Marco Reus in the midfield and were consistent performers during the afternoon, but attacking movement was at a premium in the match at Brisbane Road. Young centre backs Lasse Sobiech and Marc Hornschuh played well as ever, and first team manager Grayson Surman will be pleased at the options he has in that position for the season ahead.
Reus may make an appearance for the senior side in tomorrow’s friendly at Rangers.
