A first-half brace from Said Benkarit fired BVB’s youngsters on their way to an eventual 2-1 win at Fürth this afternoon, with the hosts only making a breakthrough with their first shot on target eleven seconds past the 90-minute mark.
There was more than a suspicion of offside about the opener after 21 minutes. Benkarit looked a yard or two clear of the last defender (below), but there was no doubt about the quality of the finish as the striker cooly lobbed the ‘keeper from 25 yards (above).
Benkarit doubled his – and BVB’s – tally five minutes before the break. Hammoud worked and made space down the left and whipped a cross in towards the penalty spot. Gümüstas got a touch to it, but Benkarit pounced as defenders hesitated in clearing, and slammed the ball home for 2-0.
Muhammed Kayaroglu scored an injury time consolation for Fürth with their first shot on target as the board went up indicating one extra minute, but it shouldn’t take the gloss off a comfortable display from the Dortmund teenagers.
