Dortmund’s Under-19 suffered defeat in their opening U19-Bundesliga Group 3 fixture at home to FC Schalke this morning. In an otherwise-even contest, Schalke took the lead on 22 minutes through diminutive striker Donis Avdijaj.
With Dortmund over-extending for an equaliser late in the second-half, Schalke broke clear and Tim Bodenröder was on hand to convert a cross from Avdijaj.
Academy Assistant Manager Edin Terzic commented on Tomas Cappechi’s performance as being BVB’s key man during the match. The U19s travel to Osnabrück next Sunday, before hosting Paderborn and Preußen Münster later in the month.
