Dortmund’s U19 side have progressed through to the Third Round of the A-Junioren Bundesliga Pokal after a 4-3 extra time win at VfL Wolfsburg this morning. BVB looked like they’d let their grasp on the game slip as the hosts drew level from 3-1 down in the last five minutes, but for once the luck went their way as Ibro Beslija tapped home the winner in extra-time stoppage time.
Said Benkarit got Dortmund off to a flyer by scoring a nice effort from the middle of the area inside 10 minutes, before Rüdiger Beck equalised for Wolfsburg with a shot from just outside the box eight minute later. Josef Bungert put BVB back in front with a close-range header after half an hour, and Quirin Riemann extended the lead in the 67th minute.
Omer Rintelen pulled one back for Wolfsburg in the 84th minute with an incisive drive from the edge of the area, before the hosts scrambled home a late equaliser with two minutes to play through Richard Meyer.
The two periods of extra-time almost passed without note until Meyer clattered through the back of Josef Bungert and earned himself a straight red card with less than a minute to go before a shootout.
Dortmund immediately capitalised on the numerical advantage by launching the free-kick into the area, and when Hermann Neubaeur failed to clear properly, Ibro Beslija tapped home Dortmund’s fourth and booked their place in the next round.
It’s now five unbeaten for Dortmund’s U19s after a slow start to the season. Their next match is on Sunday at Werder Bremen in the U19 Bundesliga.
