Dortmund’s U19 side travelled to Essen this afternoon to play the first-team of Rot-Weiß Essen at their 21,000 capacity stadium. Though the match wasn’t of the highest quality, the youngsters put in a good shift and held their fourth-tier opponents to a goalless draw.
Ogün Gümüstas had the ball in the back of the net in first-half stoppage time, but had his fine finish ruled out by a tight offside call. 15 year-old Tomas Capecchi had a great game at centre-back, including a clearance off the line as Essen nearly bundled a loose ball home from a corner.
The Under-19s are back in action next Sunday with a trip to Borussia Münchengladbach, one of the three teams level with Dortmund on 10 points in the middle of U19 Bundesliga Group 3.
