Closed-Doors Friendly: BVB XI 4-0 Reserves

With the international break taking place, the club held a closed-doors friendly match this morning giving the senior players who remained at the club a run-out, and the opportunity for fringe players in the U23 and U19 squads to play alongside players of the next step up.

While the scoreline was never going to be of any importance, First Team Manager Gray Surman will be impressed by the performances of young centre-backs Lasse Sobiech and Marc Hornschuh for the “Yellows” – the Dortmund senior team – and Eric Durm put in a good account of himself as the and Daniel Ginczek vie for a striker’s seat on the first team bench going forward.

Julian Koch switched to left full-back instead of his usual right, and scored a sublime goal in the first half. Despite being beaten four times during the match, Reserves goalkeeper Pierre Kleinheider made a handful of good saves at close range. Said Benkarit was the closest the Reserves came to creating a clear-cut chance.

Match Report by @realtimeFM:

[00] Here we go, a behind closed-doors friendly between a Dortmund XI and their Reserve side. Seven senior players for the Dortmund Yellows, including the ‘keeper and four across the back. Mixture of U23 and U19 players for the Reserves. A stretch of the legs for those players not away on international duty.

[00] Incidentally, should the match finish in a draw, we’ll have a penalty shootout! Reserves get us underway.

[01] Freekick given on the edge of the penalty arc, Sven Bender barged in the back by Nils Lennard Dietz.

[02] Felipe Santana thunders the freekick against the bar and Sven Bender wins the race to turn it home from close range, but he’s penalised for a push on Ewald Spinrath.

[02] Pierre Kleinheider looked very relieved to be taking a freekick in his goal mouth instead of conceding inside 75 seconds in front of the senior management.

[08] Daniel Ginczek fizzes a shot just over the top from 20 yards out. Yellows having more of the ball in these early exchanges, as you would expect.

[14] Patric Dytko chases a ball heading out and keeps it in right by the flag, with four yellow shirts to aim at in the box, and no one closing him down, it’s as good as a corner… Spinrath heads away, Ehmann lofts the ball back towards goal but the ‘keeper gathers.

[15] Bärmann concedes a freekick 20 yards out. Bender hammers it straight into the wall.

[17] Reserves win a corner, but Lasse Sobiech towers above his man to head it away.

[19] Kleinheider saves at point-blank range from Kevin Großkreutz, sending the barr over the bar when Großkreutz gets his head on the end of a Dytko cross six yards out. Realy should have score.

[19] Felipe Santana heads the corner goalwards at the near post from Bender’s delivery, but Kleinheider somehow tips it round the post. Two massive saves in under thirty seconds.

[20] Eric Durm strives forwards and plays a good through-ball to Daniel Ginczek who fires it a foot wide from twelve yards out for the Yellows.

[25] Corner for Yellows, Beck whips it in at the second attempt but Ginczek heads over the top.

[26] Daniel Ginczek cuts past his man from Eric Durm’s pass, and drills a shot past Kleinheider, but he’s been penalised for offside. Honestly, a howler of a decision from the Assistant Referee.

OFFSIDE? Daniel Ginczek’s goal wrongly chalked off by the Assistant Referee

[28] Yellows replace Felipe Santana with Marc Hornschuh. Santana looks like he took a knock as he landed. Shouldn’t be anything too serious though.

[31] 1-0 DORTMUND YELLOWS! There’s a goal you can’t chalk off! Eric Durm takes a touch a yard outside the box to control Sven Bender’s pass before hitting a right-footed piledriver into the bottom corner, crashing in off the post. Great finish.

GOAL! Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Dortmund Reserves (Eric Durm 31′)

[33] Corner for Reserves, Ehmann makes a good challenge on Horn. Sobiech heads it behind for a second. Hornschuh and Beck get it away. Dortmund have some great centre-back options at the club right now.

[37] Corner Yellows. Julian Koch buys it off the Reserves right-back. Two deliveries get pumped into the box but both cleared.

[38] 2-0 YELLOWS! What a goal from Julian Koch! Durm turns provider, finding the fullback on the overlap, and he smacks it into the angle of post and bar and past Kleinheider with his weaker left foot.

GOAL! Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Dortmund Reserves (Julian Koch 38′)

[42] Daniel Ginczek hits the underside of the crossbar from the edge of the box, but it bounces down and the Reserves scramble it away. Kleinheider certainly made to work in this half.

HALF-TIME: Dortmund (Yellows) 2-0 Dortmund Reserves

[HT] Two changes for the Reserves at the break: Tomas Capecchi and Josef Bungert replace Ewald Spinrath and Josef Odenthal. Thomas Meißner has replaced Sven Bender for the Yellows.

[51] Two more changes changes for Yellows: Marvin Ducksch and trialist Norman Kuczkowski come on for Daniel Ginczek and Andreas Beck. Just goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller left on the bench for them now.

[56] 3-0 YELLOWS! Paul Ehmann floats a ball into the box that Kevin Großkreutz heads square across the six-yard box. Marvin Ducksch slots home under pressure from close range.

GOAL! Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Dortmund Reserves (Marvin Ducksch 56′)

[65] There were six changes for Reserves after the third goal. Game certainly uninteresting since then.

[66] Mitchell Langerak comes off his line to make a great body save at the feet of Bastian Daum who cut past the centre-backs. Might be his last action as Roman Weidenfeller looks to be the final change for Yellows.

[70] Julian Koch whips a corner in towards the penalty spot, and Lasse Sobiech’s header clips the top of the bar on the way over.

[82] Not much to report in the last ten minutes until Julian Koch makes a good challenge on Said Benkarit inside the area. Yellows defending has been fantastic today.

[87] Patrick Dytko nearly adds a fourth goal after Kleinheider parries the ball straight to him, but he can’t get his feet in order and the ‘keeper gratefully smothers the ball inside his six-yard box.

[90] Langer gets on the end of a cross from Rauch but it’s no trouble for Weidenfeller to make a save.

[90] 4-0 YELLOWS! Right at the clock hits 90:00, Eric Durm beats Pierre Kleinheider to the ball at his near post and toe-pokes Großkreutz’s cross home for his second of the game. If Ginczek and Durm were playing for that third striker spot for the senior side, we’ve seen who should win that race.

GOAL! Borussia Dortmund 4-0 Dortmund Reserves (Eric Durm 90′)
