Puebla de la Franja have caused the biggest upset in the Liga MX Quarter Finals with a 4-3 aggregate win over Santos Laguna. Five places and ten points separated the two teams at the end of the league phase but Puebla’s 3-2 win in Torréon saw the favourites tumble out of the competition.

Sigi Schmid has been appointed as the new manager of Chicago Fire. Schmid left Seattle after four years that saw them win the US Open Cup twice, and finish as runners-up to Toronto in last year’s MLS Cup Final, but missing the playoffs this season cost him his job.

Staying in the MLS, Paul Mariner has left Toronto FC to take the reins at Philadelphia Union. Toronto won the league last season, but missed out on post-season football on goals-scored. Union finished bottom of the Eastern Conference.

Former player Frédéric Hantz has been given the vacant managerial position at OGC Nice, currently hovering out of the bottom three in Ligue Un on goal difference. Hantz’s first match in charge will be the trip to Montpellier next Saturday.
