Lukas Podolski hit a hat-trick as Germany won 6-0 in Greece in their final international friendly of 2013, in a match that featured Dortmund players Marco Reus, Ilkay Gündogan, Marcel Schmelzer, and Mats Hummels for Germany, and Kostas Katsouranis in the Greek side.
Hummels and Katsouranis both played the full match; the former in outstanding form, and the latter understandably frustrated with his performance as Germany scored three goals in each half, dominating with 62% possession. While everyone else played well during their time on the pitch, Gündogan chalked up an assist for Stefan Kießling who rounded-off the scoring late on.
Elsewhere, Neven Subotic played well for Serbia in their 2-2 draw at home to Argentina, Ivan Perisic came on as a late sub for Croatia as they qualified for the World Cup with a two-nil win over France, and Viktor Fischer played the final half-hour for Denmark as they slipped to a 0-1 friendly defeat to South Korea.
Jakub Blaszczykowski, on loan at Lille, was injured in the opening ten minutes of Poland’s 2-2 World Playoff Cup draw with Slovakia which saw the visitors qualify for Brazil. Blaszczykowski has some mild bruising on the elbow and may miss a fortnight of action.
