Football’s world governing body today announced the thirty-five man shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d’Or award. The annual award is voted for by national team managers.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrés Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Neymar, Wayne Rooney, and Xavi are considered among the front-runners for the award. Lionel Messi has won the coveted award for each of the past four seasons.
The 35 players represent thirteen different clubs, with Barcelona leading the line with seven nominations. Manchester City have six players on the shortlist, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid having five players each.
Mario Götze represents Borussia Dortmund on the shortlist, though he has missed much of the current season after breaking his ankle. He made a return on Friday night during the 4-1 win over Bayern Munich.
