SUNDAY 08 DECEMBER 2013: Dortmund’s Reserve side kept up their marvellous winning run with a 2-0 victory at ASV Neumarkt II this afternoon, extending the run to thirteen consecutive victories. A goal in either half from Josef Bungert and Said Benkarit was enough to prove the difference in a match that Lasse Sobiech played very well at centre-back.
There have been three managerial casualties following the weekend’s action, one coming in Bundesliga as last year’s surprise package Fürth have parted company with Mike Büskens after a 0-4 defeat at Frankfurt. Büskens took Fürth to 7th in the league and the DFB-Pokal Final in their first-ever season in the top-flight last year, but has struggled this season with just 9 wins out of 26.
Athletic Bilbao have fired Marcelo Biesla after their 0-2 defeat at Atletico Madrid, a result that leaves the club in 14th. The defeat was the club’s first in six games but clearly the board felt it was the right time for a change. The club have already qualified for the next round in the Europa League.
Bottom-side in France, Valenciennes, have parted company with Daniel Sanchez after three consecutive defeats. Valenciennes are one match away from the Coupe de la Ligue, but rooted to the bottom of Ligue Un with just 9 points from 16 matches.
