Dortmund’s academy side are out of the National U19 Cup at the Third Round stage after being beaten 1-2 by Hamburg at Stadion Rote Erde this morning. Steven Reinhartz scored early in each half for Hamburg as they booked their place in the last eight, with Ogün Gümüstas pulling one back for Dortmund late on, before hitting the post with a last-gasp effort.
The reserves kept up their winning run immediately afterwards though, which now stretches to 14 consecutive victories. Ibro Beslija slotted home from close range to give them the lead over Eintracht Frankfurt II after quarter of an hour. Florijon Belegu equalised on half-hour, but Eric Durm won it for Dortmund on 63 minutes.
Alan Pardew – Gray Surman’s successor at Wigan Athletic – has been fired by chairman Dave Whelan after just six months in charge at the DW Stadium. The Latics lost 0-2 at Swansea over the weekend, a result which leaves them 15th though they have comfortably won their Europa League group with five wins from five.
Reading manager Brian McDermott is the favourite for the job, though Gus Poyet, Paolo Di Canio and Keith Hill are also priced short by the bookies.
