Lionel Messi has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or for a stunning fifth consecutive year after another amazing season which saw him score 36 goals in 49 matches.
Cristiano Ronaldo was once-again the runner-up (four times in the five years since winning in 2008), with Wayne Rooney in third place. Messi has also won the World Soccer Magazine World Player of the Year Award. Rooney and Ronaldo were second and third respectively.
Neymar has won the European Golden Boy award, after a calendar year which saw him score 40 goals in 65 games. He has scored 7 in 19 for Manchester City since his £40m move from Santos in the summer.
René Girard has been appointed as the new manager at Atlético Madrid after leaving Montpellier. Atlético are in a disappointing 11th place this season, after last year’s top five finish.
