Dortmund will be without Sven Bender for the trip to the Esprit Arena for the Bundesliga match against Fortuna Düsseldorf, as the midfielder sits out a one-match suspension after picking up his 5th caution for the season during the 0-0 draw with Leverkusen last weekend.
His replacement isn’t an obvious choice, as Surman has Moritz Leitner, Dennis Praet and Kostas Katsouranis to choose from in partnering Ilkay Gündogan in the centre of midfield. The rest of the squad is fully-fit, including goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller who has missed the last three matches with a virus.
In the reverse fixture, Dortmund blew away Düsseldorf with a 5-0 victory back in September. Marc Hornschuh headed a brace either side of a goal from Kevin Großkreutz, before a late double from substitute Julian Schieber put some gloss on the scoreline.
Düsseldorf were firm favourites with the bookies to be relegated this season, after they retained their top-flight status thanks to two injury time goals to turn around a 3-4 aggregate scoreline against Energie Cottbus last May. They currently sit a respectable 12th, with a 10-point cushion over the bottom three and are in the last eight of the DFB-Pokal.
They’ll be without centre-back Stelios Malezas (hernia) and right-back Dominik Reinhardt (groin) tomorrow, but otherwise have a full-strength side.
