Real Madrid are celebrating the domestic treble by adding the Copa del Rey to their La Liga and Supercopa titles so far this season. The side, who won the league at the weekend, came from behind to beat relegation-threatened Mallorca 2-1 at Camp Nou tonight.
Michaël Pereira had Mallorca in front with just five minutes on the clock with a neat finish from the edge of the box, but the lead lasted less than ten minutes before Angel Di Maria flicked home a corner to level. Mesut Özil scored his 13th goal of the season when he latched on to a through-ball from Cristiano Ronaldo before lashing past the ‘keeper ten minutes before the break.
Mallorca came out for the second half all guns blazing, but Real’s superiority shone through as they were able to soak up pressure while looking deadly on the counter, but weren’t able to add a third despite late pressure.
With four matches to go in La Liga, all there is to play for is the three-way battle for the fourth and final Champions League spot. Atletico Madrid, Málaga and Valencia all sit level on 51 points.
