In the papers today is the story that Arsenal are preparing a summer bid for top-scorer Julian Schieber. The 25 year-old has 34 goals from 39 appearances for his club this season, two of which came at the Emirates Stadium as Dortmund came from two-down to draw 2-2 in the Champions League Group Stage back in December.
The German international has two years left on his contract, and is likely to be offered a significant raise on his current £21,500 per week deal in the coming weeks. Arsenal have struggled finding a consistent goalscorer this season, with Giroud and Podolski only contributing 12 goals each.
Across North London, Tottenham Hotspur are rumoured to be considering making a bid for Ilkay Gündogan. The 23 year-old has made 21 starts in Bundesliga for BVB so far this season, but has slipped behind Dennis Praet in the pecking order of late due to the Belgian teenager’s fine form. A fee in the £13-15m range has been quoted.
