daily-diary-header-bvb

The monthly board review has taken place at Signal Iduna Park, and to summarise, the Borussia Dortmund board are very pleased with Gray Surman’s management of the team. The club have the opportunity to lift three trophies this month.

The club are in a very healthy financial position, having posted a profit of just under £6m last month, largely due to Champions League prize money. Club finances will be further fuelled with a Bundesliga payout of ~£25m, and a final UEFA prize fund of ~£8m.

The club are spending 96% of their wage budget, though this takes into account the £2.5m ringfenced for the purchase of Heinz Lindner when the transfer window opens.

Monthly Turnover: £17.01m
Previous Month: £ 9.58m
Main Income: £ 7.65m (Prize Money)

Monthly Expenditure: £11.18m
Previous Month: £12.13m
Main Expenditure: £ 5.83m (Player Wages)

Assistant Manager Zeljko Buvac has provided some feedback on how the players have been training over the past month: Among the senior players, Ilkay Gündogan (fitness) and Daniel Ginczek (ball control) have been impressing David Wagner and Rouven Schirp on the training pitch although there have been concerns about the progress of Mats Hummels and Kostas Katsouranis (both fitness) and Thomas Meißner (tactics).

Among the youth players, Gordon Sievers and Enes Sabic (both tactics), and Josef Bungert (fitness) have shown good progress, though the same can’t be said of Abbas Hammoud (tactics) and Ibro Beslija and Dirk Bauer (both fitness).

Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri won the Goal of the Month award for his strike against Wolfsburg on 13 April, a goal not dissimilar to Ivan Perisic’s winner against Schalke three days later. Perisic’s goal wasn’t nominated in the top three, which was completed by Mario Mandzukic (Bayern) and Martin Lanig (Frankfurt) for their goals in the same match on 06 April.

Montreal Impact have terminated the contract of manager Jesse Marsch after they were eliminated from the Amway Canadian Championship by Vancouver Whitecaps, meaning the club have lost nine of their twelve matches so far this season.

Impact sit rock-bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference with just five points from ten matches. Their sole win came with a 2-1 defeat of Columbus at home three weeks ago. Their sole trophy under Marsch came with their Voyageurs Cup win in 2012.
