Former-England manager Steve McClaren has guided FC Twente to their second-ever Eredivisie title, having masterminded their previous success in 2010 before leaving to take charge at both VfL Wolfsburg and Nottingham Forest.
Going into today’s final day, Twente were three points clear of Ajax, with a +16 goal difference in their favour. McClaren rung the changes and it showed, with the side slumping to a 0-3 defeat at playoff-chasing Heracles.
Ajax overcame beaten cup-finalists Utrecht 4-0 at home, with Kolbeinn Sigþórsson scoring a hat-trick, but the massive goal swing needed was as good as an extra point for Twente. Ajax were under the control of new manager Thomas Schaaf for the first time, after Frank de Boer left to take over at Hamburg last wee.
