Bayern Munich 0-1 Dortmund (Bundesliga)

CHAMPIONS! If there’s a greater feeling in domestic football than to reclaim the title from one of your biggest rivals at their own ground in Der Klassiker, then try convincing BVB captain Mats Hummels otherwise this evening.

His header from a corner just before the half-hour mark was enough to separate the top two sides at Allianz Arena this afternoon, and give Borussia Dortmund an un-catchable ten point lead atop the summit that gives the club their ninth Bundesliga title, third in four seasons, and first trophy under the new management of Gray Surman.

Surman made just one change from the starting eleven that won 1-0 in Milan to set-up a Champions League Final tie against Barcelona, with Mario Götze replacing Robert Lewandowski, as the side reverted back to their more familiar 4-2-3-1 system.

Dortmund started by far the better side, with a number of chances in the opening quarter but Manuel Neuer was equal to them all, before the vital breakthrough on 29 minutes.

Match report by @realtimeFM:

[00] Full house here in Munich where the defending champions are looking to close the gap to the leaders down to four points. A Dortmund win will give them the title.

[00] The visitors get us underway.

[01] A brilliant save from Manuel Neuer inside thirty seconds denies Marco Reus. He slipped round Lukas Piszczek and latched onto Mario Götze’s through-ball. Neuer’s foot deflects his shot wide.

[02] Another good save from Neuer to push Julian Schieber’s shot away. Dortmund have come flying out the blocks!

[08] Bayern have barely got out of their own half so far. Reus and Götze are dominating play down their right flank.

[09] Marcel Schmelzer trips Arjen Robben and is fortunate to escape a booking.

[15] Ivan Perisic smashes a shot from the edge of the box but Neuer gets his body behind it. Good work by Sven Bender to pick him out.

[18] Dante has made two last-ditch tackles in the last couple of minutes to rob Schieber as he’s about to pull the trigger. Piszczek and Lahm appear to be playing on the opposite flanks to normal and Dortmund’s overlapping fullbacks are running at them.

[22] Roman Weidenfeller is beaten by Bastian Schweinsteiger’s header but it skims the bar and goes over.

[25] Dortmund have taken their foot off the gas a little and Bayern are coming into the match more. By weathering that early storm, can they take advantage in front of their home crowd?

[29] Another good challenge by Dante puts the ball behind for a corner for the visitors.

[29] 1-0 DORTMUND! Mario Götze whips the corner in from the left, and BVB captain Mats Hummels meets it at the near post and guides his header past Neuer. A goal to win the title?

[32] Huge call from the referee as Schieber and Dante chase a ball over the top. The Dortmund forward goes down after cutting across, but no free-kick given. Dante was clearly the last man.

[34] Ivan Perisic wins a free-kick by the touchline, 30 yards from goal, and whips the ball in, but Schieber’s header is saved easily.

[37] Bayern getting the ball forwards more often, but Andreas Beck and Marcel Schmelzer are winning all the battles on either flank.

[40] Arjen Robben getting no change from Andreas Beck down Bayern’s left so far.

[42] Robben pulls up on another surge down the left as Beck comes across to make the challenge. He’s receiving treatment. BVb with a man advantage temporarily.

[43] Corner for Dortmund. Bayern make a hash of clearing a cross into the box and it eventually gets deflected behind.

[44] Two additional minutes.

[45+1] Closest Bayern have come so far. Frank Ríbery’s cross is flicked behind his own goal by Mats Hummels denying Arjen Robben a tap-in at the far post.

HALF-TIME: Bayern Munich 0-1 Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga)

[HT] No changes for either side at the break.

[46] Bayern win a corner inside 20 seconds of the second-half. Sven Bender makes a crunching challenge on Schweinstiger, but the ball runs for Robben whose shot richochets off Andreas Beck and drops wide.

[49] Dortmund corner when Piszczek nicks the ball from Götze. It comes to nothing.

[52] Marco Reus gets onto a great ball over the top from Götze, but his first touch is far too heavy and Piszczek is on hand to clear the danger.

[53] Bayern go straight up the other end and win a corner, but Hummels gets the delivery away.

[55] Sven Bender and Ilkay Gündogan are on Robben and Ríbery in a flash whenever either of them has the ball. Great closing down and Bayern just can’t get the ball into the final third.

[56] Sub for Bayern¹: Jermome Boateng replaces Ríbery (6.7).

[57] Arjen Robben runs at the back four and skims a shot off the wet turf from 25 yards out when spins agonizingly wide of the post.

[59] Mario Mandzukic’s diving header drops half a yard wide of Weidenfeller’s goal as he gets on the end of Lahm’s great cross.

[63] Toni Kroos nods down a Robben cross but it’s behind Mandzukic who’s inside the six-yard box and Dortmund clear.

[66] Boateng powers a header at goal from a Kroos corner but it’s inches over the top.

[70] Arjen Robben catches Sven Bender in possession and surges up the right-hand side. Subotic makes a fair challenge but the Bayern man has ended up worse off. Trainer’s on again.

[72] Sub for Bayern²: Robben (7.2) is replaced by David Alaba.

[74] David Alaba’s cross is put behind by Andreas Beck – he’s having a great game. Subotic heads the corner behind for a second, and Dortmun get that one away.

[77] Alaba hoofs the ball 70 yards upfield. Hummels steps up as Subotic starts to drop back, and Mandzukic is played onside. Weidenfeller gets there just ahead of the striker.

[80] Ten minutes separating Borussia Dortmund from the Bundesliga title. Bayern are finishing the game like their opponents started it – absolutely dominant except for finding the back of the net. Here’s how it stands:

[81] Andreas Beck goes past three on the right wing before sending a great cross-field ball to Marco Reus who gets to the goal line before being tripped by Lahm, two yards outside the box.

[81] The free-kick gets hammered-in towards the near post and Mandzukic gets a touch ahead of Hummels before scrambling it away.

[82] Corner for Bayern at the other end. Alaba and Boateng get the ball forwards and Beck has to make a challenge to deny Kroos a shot at goal.

[84] Sub for Bayern³: Xherdan Shaqiri is on for Piszczek (7.0).

[84] Marco Reus controls the ball on the left and sends it through to Julian Schieber with a neat second touch. Schieber is halted by the offside flag as he pulls the trigger.

[87] Corner for Dortmund – it’s end to end stuff here.

[89] Only six in the box as Dortmund win another corner, but Schieber gets on the end of it, it’s blocked on the line and Subotic can’t squeeze the ball home from inside the six-yard box.

[90] Another corner for Bayern. Everyone bar Neuer is forwards for it.

[90] Subotic heads the corner away and Reus lumps it upfield. Julian Schieber is onside and clean through on goal, with half the pitch to run.

[90] Neuer forces Schieber wide as he goes to take it round the ‘keeper, and he can’t get a clean shot away. It squirms a yard or two wide. Absolutely glorious chance to seal it. we’ll have another three minutes.

[90+4] We’re still playing here for some reason, and Shaqiri wins Bayern a corner. Andreas Beck with a fantastic challenge.

[90+5] Kroos has two attempts to swing the ball into the box, but Götze and Subotic get both away. Marco Reus has gone down in a challenge with Alaba and will get treatment.

[90+5] BVB waiting to make a change but the ball isn’t going out of play. Can’t be anything left to play.

FULL-TIME: Bayern Munich 0-1 Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga)

A first managerial honour for Gray Surman, and it’s come with Dortmund’s third win over Bayern in five months. We’ll have further reaction over the coming days. Marco Reus took a knock late on and will be a concern ahead of BVB’s final four matches of the season – which includes two cup finals.
