Messi Wins European Player of the Year

Lionel Messi has won his third Best Player in Europe Award,  the award that UEFA created four seasons ago to replace the Club Footballer of the Year Award and the original Ballon d’Or (now a FIFA presentation).

Messi has won the award every year except 2012 when he finished as third-place behind winner and team-mate Andrés Iniesta, and runner-up Cristiano Ronaldo in.

Ronaldo is runner-up in the award for the third consecutive season, with Wayne Rooney coming in third place. Messi has scored 27 goals in 43 appearances this season, with 17 assists and 16 man-of-the-match awards.
