UEFA have confirmed that the 2014 Super Cup will take place between Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal at Cardiff City Stadium on 29 August. The annual football match features the winners of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
Both sides have appeared in the competition once (both over two legs), both finishing as runners-up. Dortmund lost in 1997 to Barcelona (0-2, 1-1) after lifting the Champions League, while Arsenal lost out in 1994 to AC Milan (0-0, 0-2) after they won the then-UEFA Cup. After BVB’s 1997 defeat, the competition has been played at a neutral venue.
Borussia Dortmund beat Barcelona on penalties in the Champions League Final a fortnight ago, while Arsenal lifted the Europa League after they beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 to end a nine-year trophy drought.
