Slovakia and Iran played out a first draw in Sao Paulo, handing the advantage to Group C leaders Croatia. Iran went in front midway through the first-half, but the lead lasted less than quarter of an hour before Slovakia equalised in a game that Adem Nemec should have won in the dying moments.
Andranik Teymourian scored a great opener from the edge of the box as he got on the end of Navidkia’s through-ball and deftly clipped the ball over the advancing ‘keeper into the top corner.
Seven minutes before the break, Slovakia were back on level terms through Stanislav Sestak when he slammed the ball past Davari from twelve yards out following great work own the left to get to the bye-line by Vladimir Weiss.
Adem Nemec had a great chance to snatch the points for Slovakia inside stoppage time, but the Bochum-bound striker saw his strike come back off the post after he beat the ‘keeper from 15 yards out.
Both sides are back in action on Friday when Slovakia play Brazil, and Iran meet Croatia.
