Switzerland scored a goal in stoppage time of both halves to record a 2-0 win over the United States in Sao Paulo this evening. In an otherwise even match, the Swiss broke the deadlock one minute into first-half additional time through Almen Abdi.
Michael Bradley didn’t get enough distance on his header to clear a cross, and the ball came back into the box, eventually being poked home from close range by Abdi in the last action before the interval.
Both sides hit the woodwork in the second-half, but the three points were sealed for the Swiss when Timm Klose scored his first goal for his country. Tranquilo Barnetta whipped a free-kick into the box from out wide and despite two defenders marking him, Klose met the delivery on the volley and scored from ten yards out.
Switzerland play England next Saturday, while USA play Senegal on Friday night.
