Iran and Croatia played out the first goalless encounter of this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil, a match that Croatia will regret not winning after their fantastic start against Brazil last time out.
The European side dominated throughout but staunch defending kept them at bay. The most likely threat came from Shakhtar Donetsk striker Darijo Srna who twice asked questions of Iranian goalkeeper Daniel Davari from inside the box.
Main talking point of the game came with a challenge between Atabak Rahmani and Darijo Srna who came together strongly over a bouncing ball. Both players needed treatment, but the Srna came off worse and medical reports show he’s broken a bone in his foot and will be out for several months.
The result means that all four Group C sides will go into next Wednesday’s matches each with a chance of making the last sixteen. Iran play Brazil, Croatia face Slovakia.
