USA dominated for all but two minutes of today’s Group D match against a poor Senegalese side who mustered two shots on target all game, though the second of those gave Lamine Sané his first goal for his country and earned Senegal a point.
Jozy Altidore drilled home an opener for the States inside the opening four minutes when Chris Wondolowski caught Mohamed Diamé in possession and got the ball forwards quickly. Altidore finding the back of the net from the edge of the box.
USA absolutely peppered the Senegalese goal, but unlike their collapse against England, the African defence held strong and resisted everything else that was thrown at them.
With less than three minutes remaining, Senegal won only their second corner of the game. Lamara whipped it in high to the near post where Lamine Sané leaped highest and powered a header past Brad Guzan to snatch a late point and avoid elimination.
Mohamed Diamé and Michael Bradley will be suspended for the final group matches after they both picked up bookings in the final five minutes, having already been cautioned in the opening match.
