Mohammed Abdellaoue scored an equaliser in the last ten minutes with Norway’s only shot on target to snatch a point from Netherlands in a 1-1 draw in Sao Paulo this evening.
Arjen Robben put the Dutch in front around the half-hour mark when he was allowed to bring the ball forwards from his own half and slot in to the bottom corner from eighteen yards out. Netherlands dominated throughout, but only tested Håkon Opdal twice more, shots from the edge of the box that he was equal to in the Norwegian goal.
The equaliser came when the Dutch didn’t clear away a long Morten Gamst Pedersen throw-in, and the ball was eventually played back into the box by Wolff Eikrem. Yttergård Jenssen took it to the bye-line before pulling back for Mohammed Abdellaoue to slot home from inside the six-yard box.
The result eliminates Canada, who face Netherlands on Thursday. Norway play Guinea knowing a point will see them qualify.
