Daily Diary, Monday 14 July 2014: The club has offered new 4-year deals to Marcel Schmelzer (67k) and Neven Subotic (77k) after their excellent seasons, and expect both defenders to agree to improved contract terms in the coming week.

Teenage striker Said Benkarit has completed a permanent move to Hansa Rostock, with BVB receiving an initial £150,000.  The club wishes him well, and thanks him for his service.

bvb2015_70_hornschuh23 year-old centre-back Marc Hornschuh has agreed to join BVB’s feeder club, 3.Fußball-Liga side SV Sandhausen on a season-long loan. He’ll be joined by Australian U21 international midfielder Mustafa Amini, who agreed the same deal yesterday.

Sandhausen have also made a loan proposal for teenage defensive midfielder Niels Dietz, as have VfR Aachen. The club have accepted both season-long proposals, and will let the player decide what’s best for him. Both clubs play in the third-tier.

bvb2015_70_matthysThe club has made a £450,000 bid for Anderlecht’s 18 year-old centre-back Hervé Matthys after an enquiry as to his availability. The Belgian champions have accepted the offer, and discussions with the player are set to begin soon.

Benjamin Bella has unfortunately suffered a twisted ankle in a training session with the German U19 squad in Hungary, ahead of the UEFA U19 Championship which begins tomorrow. It’s likely he’ll miss the entire two-week tournament.

John Obi Mikel has joined Sevilla after eight years at Chelsea in a £8.75m move. Mikel won the UEFA Champions League with the London club in 2012.

The other transfer of note today is the £12.5m deal taking Bundesliga-winning left-back David Alaba from Bayern Munich to Tottenham Hotspur for £12.5m. The 22 year-old holds the record as the youngest Austrian to represent his country at senior level.
