Dortmund 6-0 Sportclub Enschede (Friendly)

BVB can celebrate a morale-boosting win over SC Enschede this afternoon, with a predictable but pleasing 6-0 win over their Dutch fifth-tier opponents, a match arranged in the wake of the weekend’s DFL-Supercup defeat.

bvb2015_70_rockerManager Gray Surman gave starts to five of Saturday’s seven substitutes, with a young defence in front of Heinz Lindner in-goal. Cimo Röcker looked a bargain-buy with a stunning display, constantly putting the visitors under pressure, and claiming a pair of assists as well as man-of-the-match.

Neven Subotic headed home a Gündogan corner, before Robert Lewandowski added a brace to give BVB an unanswered three-goal lead at the break, with ‘keeper Lindner not having a touch of the ball until the 40th minute as Dortmund dominated.

Ivan Perisic and Paul Ehmann were introduced during the interval, though the latter only lasted quarter of an hour before being carried off. Within five minutes, with Mario Götze encouraged to get forwards, Dortmund were five-up thanks to Götze’s double, and Perisic made it six with twenty minutes to play.

Update: Ehmann’s injury is trivial, and he’ll be fit for the next match.

                   Subotic 17
           Lewandowski 20, 29
                 Götze 62, 64
                   Perisic 70

Live Text Commentary from

Almost ready to kick-off here at Stadion Rote Erde. BVB hosting fifth-tier Dutch opposition in SC Enschede, giving manager Gray Surman an extra chance to rotate his squad. We’ll likely see some fringe Dortmund II players later too. Playing two up-top, Surman says he wants to see Lewandowski and Schieber spark together.

00′ We’re under way! The Dutch side in their all-black strip get us going.

02′ Zwamborn gets the ball into the box for the visitors but Subotic heads both efforts away. Dortmund break from the latter and Schürrle fizzes a shot over the top from 20 yards.

02′ Schöt bundles over Bender and concedes a foul.

03′ Röcker pulls the ball back across the face of goal from the bye-line. Sneijder clears, but only as far as Gündogan on the edge of the box, whose snap-shot is straight at Ros and the visiting ‘keeper holds.

03′ Corner for the visitors. Subotic challenges Altunbas and puts it behind.

04′ Subotic clears the corner, Götze hammers it upfield for Lewandowski to chase behind the defence, but he can’t keep it in play.

06′ Enschede not able to clear their lines as Koch and Röcker both get crosses in, Bender keeps the ball alive and Schürrle eventually fires over the top.

06′ Glorious chance for Lewandowski six yards out after Schieber knocks down Schürrle’s cross, but the Polish striker has his shot saved by the feet of Ros.

08′ Schieber gets a vital touch on a ball from Koch that’s creeping out, winning a corner off Matawauw in the process.

09′ Corner is cleared away at the near post but as Lewandowski squares for Bender on the edge of the box he’s clattered by Schot. Free-kick to Dortmund, 20 yards out at most.

09′ Mario Götze bends it over the top, didn’t get a dip on it from such close range.

10′ Corner for Dortmund. Götze’s run down the right wins it.

10′ Foul by André Schürrle earns him a lecture from referee Thorsten Schriever down by the corner flag.

12′ Neven Subotic is inches wide with a header 15 yards out from a Götze flighted free-kick into the box after Altunbas’s foul.

13′ Gündogan curls one over the top from 20 yards out.

14′ Schürrle somehow fires wide of the near post when Schieber plays a through-ball. Good work from Gündogan to run at the defence.

15′ Another Schürrle effort well-wide. Been seeing that rather often this month.

16′ Fantastic save from Ros to beat away a curling Gündogan effort towards the top corner.

17′ Corner Dortmund, Götze has a shot deflected wide.

17′ Dortmund 1-0 Enschede: Ilkay Gündogan floats the corner towards the six-yard box where Neven Subotic rises above his marker to head past Ros.

20′ Dortmund 2-0 Enschede: André Schürrle keeps the ball in by the corner flag, spins his man and sends a cross towards the near post for Robert Lewandowski to nod home at a tight angle. Two in three minutes for the hosts.

21′ Schürrle nearly adds a third from Götze’s cross but his shot is turned behind. Corner comes to nothing.

23′ Another corner for BVB when Schürrle picks out Lewandowski, but for a saving challenge. Balls ends up safely in Ros’s hands from a close-range Götze prod towards goal.

26′ Robert Lewandowski has a sight of goal and rifles a shot just past Ros’s left-hand post from 25 yards out.

27′ Schürrle cuts inside and puts it into the stand behind Ros from 25 yards.

29′ Dortmund 3-0 Enschede: Schürrle has a shot towards goal smashed away by Malawauw, only to be collected 25 yards out by Bender. First-touch into Schürrle who tees it up for Robert Lewandowski to smash into the bottom corner from 20 yards out. ‘Keeper didn’t even move.

32′ Sven Bender and Pieter de Vries collide in the middle of the park. Looks innocuous enough but the Enschede man looks in some discomfort. Play halted soon after when Malawauw barges into Schürrle as he looked up to put the ball out.

35′ Substitution for SC Enschede: Boudy Valk replaces De Vries who is struggling to walk after that challenge.

35′ Play resumes with a Dortmund free-kick, but it’s just hit long to give possession back to the visitors.

38′ Takacs getting treatment on the sidelines for the visitors now. Temporarily down to ten men after he came off second-best in a 50/50 challenge with Lewandowski.

39′ Fantastic tracking-back by Gündogan to rob the ball from Altunbas as Enschede looked to counter-attack.

40′ As Heinz Lindner gets his FIRST touch of the ball, when he comes to claim Schot’s over-weighted header into the box, Takacs comes back on to the field.

43′ Schot may have had Enschede’s first touch of the ball in the box when he beats Matthys but Subotic makes a challenge and wins it back. Kousemaker clips an effort towards goal from 25 yards but it’s a simple catch for Lindner. First shot of the game from the visitors.

45+1′ Lewandowski denied a first-half hat-trick by a fine save by Ros at the far post. The ‘keeper is at full-stretch to palm away a close-range header from Gündogan’s cross. Probable last action of the half here.

45+1 …or not. Board goes up with two minutes on it.

HALF-TIME: Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Sportclub Enschede (Friendly)

There’s the half-time whistle and an utterly one-way display so far, as expected. No surprises, but BVB’s rotated line-up is putting in the effort and performance that will please Gray Surman. We’ll be back in 15 with any subs news, and of course, the second-half.

HT: Two changes for Dortmund as they switch to their regular 4-2-3-1. Ivan Perisic replaces Lewandowski, with Schieber up front on his own, Perisic behind him. Paul Ehmann comes on for Bender in the middle.

HT: Enschede have made a pair of changes too. Khaibar de Jong and Jeffrey Kauling are on for Zwamborn and Schot respectively.

46′ Ilkay Gündogan has the captain’s armband for Dortmund now.

46′ Let’s go, eskimo! Second-half now under way.

46′ Gündogan smashes one over the top from just outside the box. Nearly a very early chance for Perisic but he pulled it back instead of taking the shot.

48′ André Schürrle bends one just wide of the far post after he cuts inside from the left and gets to the edge of the box.

49′ Paul Ehmann gets his first touch for Dortmund with a well-timed sliding challenge to win the ball from Kousemaker inside the penalty arc.

50′ Corner for Dortmund following Sneijder’s heavy challenge on Perisic inside the box. Hosts looking at the referee expecting more than just a corner.

50′ Ros holds well from Matthys’s header.

56′ Schieber fires wide from distance, and SC Enschede make a double change. On come Alain Klijn Velderman and Alexander Lindenbergh, replacing Altunbas and Kousemaker.

58′ Paul Ehmann pulls up after he plays a ball forwards into the box.

58′ Gündogan plays the ball out and Dortmund make an immediate change. On comes Jeremy Dudziak in his place.

62′ Dortmund 4-0 Enschede: Julian Schieber sells his man a dummy by the corner flag, before cutting towards goal and sending the ball in towards the near post where Mario Götze gets a touch to send it past Ros.

63′ Goal as seemingly been credited as an OG by the visiting ‘keeper as it squirms between his grasp but Götze send it towards goal from inside the six-yard box so we’re not taking it away from him.

64′ Lindenbergh and Malawauw made to work by the Dortmund wide players who are peppering the Enschede six-yard box with crosses.

64′ Dortmund 5-0 Enschede: You can’t take this one away from Götze, that’s for sure. Röcker sends a ball square across the box from the left, and Mario Götze smashes it first-time past Ros from ten yards out.

70′ Dortmund 6-0 Enschede: Cimo Röcker whips in a deep cross from the left, Mario Götze flicks it on at the near post and Ivan Perisic arrives unmarked at the back to slot past Ros. Still 20 minutes to play.

72′ Chris Löwe has the ball in the net for a seventh, but it’s been disallowed. He turns in Koch’s low cross, but in the tangle of bodies, Schieber is penalised for a foul.

73′ Löwe gets away from his man at the far post and meets Koch’s cross, but doesn’t get any power in the header and Ros saves easily.

75′ Schieber has a header saved at close-range by Ros, and Enschede only scramble it away as far as Röcker. He clips it towards the back post but it lands over the top.

77′ Chris Löwe is the first player in the book. Lindenbergh had got past him and the Dortmund man goes for a tug of the shirt. Yellow card from the referee.

77′ Ron Naafs soon joins him, he’s late on Gündogan and Mr Schiever evens up the yellow card tally.

78′ Julian Koch cuts inside from the right, beats two men and smashes a shot from 20 yards inches past the post.

80′ Rare bit of pressure from the visitors. Lasse Sobiech required to clear the ball at the near post. Surman encouraging his young defence – average of just 21 in his back four – to concentrate and see this out with a clean sheet.

82′ Superb flowing move by SC Enschede as they work the ball forwards and across the park, eventually to De Jong who stings Lindner’s palms from 20 yards out and wins a corner. Good save, too.

86′ Sneijder heads away a couple of crosses from Löwe. Dortmund channelling everything down their left at the moment.

90′ Into the final minutes here and BVB closing the game out well, despite some late possession and attacking movement from the visitors. Dortmund’s young full-backs have been impressive today, and Gündogan dominant in the middle.

FULL-TIME: Borussia Dortmund 6-0 Sportclub Enschede (Friendly) [PKM]

A morale-boosting, comfortable win and a clean sheet for the young defence to enjoy too. Man-of-the-match for me was left-back Cimo Röcker, with two fine assists and a lively performance throughout. Good to see teenagers Hervé Matthys and Jeremy Dudziak get run-outs too, they look solid options in depth.

Pre-game, Surman was saying that he wanted to see Lewandowski and Schieber create opportunities for themselves, and it was definitely the former who looked sharper. With BVB usually playing 4-2-3-1, last season’s top-scorer Schieber, could find his place under threat.

André Schürrle always looked dangerous, getting an assist for the second goal, but needs to be sharper when he cuts inside and pulls the trigger. Dortmund have three more friendlies before their opening competitive match, so will surely continue to rotate.
