BVB’s Head of Youth Development Volker Kersting has announced that the club has agreed the signings of two young players ahead of the U19-Bundesliga season beginning next month.
Samy Bourard has arrived in a £300,000 move from Belgian champions RSC Anderlecht. The 18 year-old central midfielder was a regular for their title-winning U19 squad last season, and has signed a four-year deal on £1,700 p/w, with bonuses after playing 10 league games for the first team.
The second new arrival is Emiliano Mancinelli from Pescara, with the Italian top-fight side receiving £875,000 in compensation for their 17 year-old striker. Mancinelli frequently turned out for the club’s reserves, with a breakthrough to the first team expected this season before BVB made their move.
Mancinelli’s arrival has delighted the club’s fans, with club supporter spokesman Christian Herrmann saying that he considered the deal a coup, and that the player really should have commanded a higher transfer fee.
Samy Bourard will wear #46, Emiliano Mancinelli will wear #40.
Update: First Team Manager Gray Surman spoke of Mancinelli in a brief interview: “I have no concerns that Emiliano can’t speak German, football is a universal language and we’ll be asking Tomas Cappechi to help him. The club’s financial structure meant this deal was possible, no players need to leave any time soon.”
