Several websites are leading with the story that Manchester United are on the verge of tabling a £28m bid for Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gündogan, with the majority of that cash coming from a potential £16m sale of Danny Wellbeck to Chelsea.
22 year-old Gündogan made 49 appearances last season en route to BVB winning the treble, scoring just twice, but ranking joint-fourth on assists for the club with ten. He also played at the World Cup, where he scored in Germany’s 3-1 win against Argentina.
With Lars Bender joining from Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the transfer window, and the increasingly good performances from Dennis Praet, BVB may look to cash-in on the player they bought for just £3m three years ago.
That cash would then be available to put towards the rumoured purchase of want-away striker Stevan Jovetic who had a £32m price tag slapped on him by Fiorentina today after BVB’s rumoured interest. Jovetic played the last 20 minutes today in their 1-1 Friendly draw at Vitória Guimarães.
