Marco Reus inspired Dortmund to turnaround an early penalty in another one-sided performance, where Surman rotated through his senior squad, including the decision to play Viktor Fischer up-front on his own. A goal and an assist for Reus, who owned the right wing, saw BVB triumph 3-1.
Beck conceded a 12th minute penalty after he brought down the pacey Massimo Cannizarro, which was slotted home by Bergheim. Lindner’s first touch in goal was to pick the ball out the back of his net, but goal kicks aside, it was one of very few touches for him.
Within five minutes, Reus beat his man and crossed for Ivan Perisic to head home an equaliser for close range. Twenty minutes later his shot from distance was spilled by the ‘keeper and Fischer poked home the rebound only to have it chalked off by an abysmal offside call.
After the break, seconds after Lars Bender rattled the crossbar, Marco Reus turned home a Cimo Röcker cross on the volley from 15 yards out for the best goal of the night. Julian Schieber sealed it with twenty to play with a simple tap-in.

Live Text Commentary from tlk.io/realtimeFM:

03′ Dortmund have a corner after 140 seconds. Kühn heads behind Praet’s cross.
03′ Corner hammered away at the near post, not a good deliver from Praet.
04′ But BVB have a second when Beck’s cross is deflected behind. Kühn heads it away ahead of Matthys. Beck gets a cross back in but Köln clear.
06′ Lejan wins a free-kick by the touchline, midway in the Dortmund half. He takes it himself, hitting it deep towards the penalty spot but Matthys heads away and Dortmund are getting men forwards on the break.
09′ Viktor Fischer closes down Michael Melka and forces the visiting ‘keeper into a rushed kick which lands straight at the feet of Marco Reus. He brings the ball back in the box but blazes wide from a tight angle.
10′ Stanislaus Bergheim beats the offside trap, but Hervé Matthys tracks his run and forces him wide of the penalty area. The Köln man gets his feet in a tangle and the balls goes out for a goal kick.
11′ Reus brings down Schaaf on half-way after Cannizzaro plays a one-two. Köln play the ball wide from the free-kick and win a corner.
12′ Fortuna Köln have been awarded a penalty after Beck brings down Cannizzaro. No hesitation from the referee who points at the spot. Beck took ball and man with a clumsy challenge.
13′ Borussia Dortmund 0-1 Fortuna Köln: Stani Bergheim steps-up and sends Heinz Lindner the wrong way from the spot. Lindner’s first touch is picking the ball out the back of his net.
16′ Kevin Großkreutz hammers a low cross into the box from the left, it gets put behind for a Dortmund corner.
16′ Kuth heads it away at the near post but Praet gets it back in to the box. Köln have everyone behind the ball and eventually clear it away after some ping-pong in the six-yard box.
17′ Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Fortuna Köln: Marco Reus leaves his man standing as he bursts into the box, clipping the ball into the six yard box for Ivan Perisic to head home an equaliser. Good work by Viktor Fischer to block off the run of his marker to allow Perisic space.
20′ That’s woken the home side up, and Praet picks out Beck on the right wing. He crosses for Fischer near the penalty spot. He takes a touch to control it but is crowded out by three defenders who clear. Could have taken that first-time.
21′ Marco Reus goes by Schaaf again but can’t quite work a low cross in towards Fischer.
23′ Bergheim gets a cross in towards the far post but Matthys clears and BVB break forwards with Reus. He wins a corner up the other end.
24′ It’s pulled back to Lars Bender who shoots from distance but is well wide.
25′ Maurice Kühn clears from inside his own six-yard box twice in a matter of seconds. Dortmund being given far too much room on the flanks. Beck and Reus swinging crosses in from the right.
26′ Also taking place at the moment is South Korean side Gyeongnam hosting Inter Milan. Tha’s 2-2 there after almost half-hour. Inter letting a 2-goal lead slip.
27′ Lovely move from the hosts. Praet pops a ball over the top for Großkreutz who hits a cross in on the volley, but Reus’s header is straight at Melka from 10 yards out.
29′ Again Marco Reus is away down the right, cross comes in, but Köln’s compact defence heads away. They had seven men inside their own six yard box.
29′ Köln clear but BVB can pick-up the second ball outside the box each time. Lars Bender does just that and forces a fingertip save from Melka from 22 yards out. Corner.
29′ Melka saves from Hummel’s header and holds on.
33′ Praet tries a looping shot from 22 yards out but Melka is equal to it.
35′ Großkreutz gets the ball deep towards the far post where Reus arrives, he heads it back across goal for Fischer but Melka snatches out the cross.

37′ Lejan and Bender come together in the centre-circle in a crunching challenge. The Köln man certainly coming off worse. Beck plays the ball out so he can get treatment.
40′ Lejan’s back with us, but I wouldn’t expect him back out after the break.
40′ Marco Reus curls an effort towards the top corner from 15 yards out and a stunning save from Michael Melka denies him.
42′ Laux probably fortunate to escape a booking after he hauls down Reus as Dortmund were coming forward in numbers.
44′ We’ll have one additional minute.

78′ Game has become scrappy as we approach the final ten minutes. Some niggly fouls in the middle third.

82′ Excellent challenge by Madlmayr inside his own penalty arc as Röcker came forward with the ball and was about to pull the trigger.

FULL-TIME: Borussia Dortmund 3-1 Fortuna Köln (Friendly) [PKM]
Comfortable victory for Dortmund, if nothing outstanding. Only time the visitors made Lindner work was with the penalty. Fischer had a goal ruled out by a horrendous offside decision, but he performed well enough up top.
BVB were penalised rather a lot this afternoon, which could have put them under unecessary pressure, but Matths, Hummels and Santana were solid at the back. An assist for a full-back on either flank too.
Next to visit are Wigan Athletic, with the match being played inside Signal Iduna Park on Saturday afternoon.
