Juventus won their fifth Supercoppa Italiana with a 2-1 win over Lazio in Turin this evening, with first-half strikes from Mirko Vucinic and Arturo Vidal giving them a lead that a late strike from Lazio’s Marius Stankevicius couldn’t counter.
Montenegrin international Vuicinic put the Serie A champions in front inside the first ten minutes with a lovely right-footed strike past Marchetti from the edge of the box, before Vidal doubled the lead seconds before the half-time whistle.
A triple-substitution for Lazio inside he last quarter rejuvenated the TIM Cup holders, and they halved the deficit with seven minutes to go when Stankevicius flicked home at the far post, but it was too little too late.
The Serie A season begins in a fortnight. Juventus host Udinese. Lazio travel to Inter.
