AS Roma U20s won the second PUMA Summer Cup with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Montpellier in Dortmund this afternoon, dominating the French side from the outset, taking a three-goal lead into half-time.
Christian Anastasio put the Italians in front before a Gianlorenzo Zeccolella brace before the break. Zeccolella celebrated a hat-trick in the dying minutes when his tame shot was fumbled over the line by Montpellier ‘keeper Alain Berger, but the Frenchman will surely be credited with an own-goal.
Dortmund let a two-goal lead slip against last week’s winners Arsenal, but held their nerve to win on penalties after an exciting 2-2 draw in the playoff match. Highly-rated prospects Emiliano Mancinelli and Benjamin Bella had BVB two-up after 25 minutes, but goals from Kenny Gordon and Byron McBean 75 seconds apart had Arsenal level shortly after the break.
Kenny Gordon had a potential late winner ruled out for offside before the game went to spot-kicks. Everyone scored apart from Graham Gerrard who had his effort saved by Daniel Schmadtke to see Dortmund take third-place, 5-4 on penalties.
