Daily Dortmund Diary: Tuesday 26 August

DAILY DORTMUND DIARY, Tuesday 26 August:

Trabzonspor’s Hüseyin Avni Aker stadium has been announced as the host for the 2017 UEFA Super Cup, the first time a continental club competition has held its show-piece match in Turkey since the 2009 Europa League Final won by Shakhtar Donestsk in Istanbul.

The stadium in Trabzon held off rival bids from Servette’s Stade de Geneve in Switzerland, Estadio Ramón de Caranza in Cádiz (Spain), Boavista’s Estádio do Bessa Século XXI in Porto, and the Norwegian national Ullevål Stadion in Oslo.

Borussia Dortmund play Arsenal in this year’s Super Cup on Friday night, taking place at the Cardiff City Stadium in Wales. A preview will be published on Thursday.

Mustafa Amini (6.5) and Marc Hornschuh (6.7) were both in action for Sandhausen in their 0-1 defeat at VfR Aalen, which saw them miss the chance to go top of 3.Fußball-Liga. Both played reasonably well, despite an early caution for Amini. Tobias Ahrens scored the only goal of the game inside the opening two minutes.

BVB’s Head of Youth Development Volker Kersting has reported to senior management that academy players Karl-Heinz Horn and Josef Bungert have rejected contract offers made to them over the weekend. Negotiations will continue as part of his remit.
