Dortmund First Team Manager Gray Surman spent his birthday morning as one of 18 people watching BVB’s Under 19s win 2-1 at Stuttgarter Kickers in their final pre-season friendly.
The highly-rated Benjamin Bella fired Dortmund into a 13th minute lead after great work from Karl-Heinz Horn, and was unlucky not to extend the lead further with a trio of half-chances before the break at Bezikssportanlange Waldau.
The hosts, who play in Group 4 of the U19 Bundesliga (Dortmund are in Group 3), hit the woodwork either side of the break, with a cross from the left catching the wind and nearly beating Kristof Müller, before a free-kick rattled his crossbar early in the second-half.
Enes Sabic conceded a penalty within a minute of his introduction, giving Marco Auer an equaliser from the spot on 58 minutes, but Sabic made amends late-on, heading home an 83rd minute winner from a corner, and he almost made it 3-1 when his injury time effort was cleared off the line
