We’re down to just four unbeaten teams after a debatable penalty was the difference between promoted Hertha Berlin and Wolfsburg that caused the visiting manager Felix Magath to criticise the referee after the match. Pierre Lasogga slotted home from the spot after Jan Polak was wrongly adjudged to have tripped Hertha captain Maik Franz.

Freiburg offered little resistance at home to Schalke who travel home with all three points thanks to a goal apiece from Jonathan Viera and free-scoring Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Augsburg stay top for at least twenty four hours after their 2-2 draw at home to Stuttgart. Mateusz Klich opened his account for the season inside the opening ten minutes before putting the hosts back in front before half-time after Christian Gentner drew the visitors level. Vedad Ibisevic split the points with a fine second-half strike.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich were comfortable in a 2-0 win over Hannover at the Allianz-Arena, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf held each other to a 1-1 draw despite the late dismissal of Martin Lanig, and Mainz took the points with a 1-0 win over Nürnberg courtesy of Shawn Parker’s 5th minute effort.

On Friday night, Rafael van der Vaart curled home a free-kick after just 40 seconds to put Hamburg on their way to a 5-1 win over Werder Bremen who were briefly level through a Sokratis header before Son Heung-Min struck. A pair of headers from substitute Artjoms Rudnevs, and a late fumble from the visiting ‘keeper added some gloss to the scoreline.

Dortmund can climb into the top three with a win over Mönchengladbach in the Borussen Derby – usually high-scoring affairs – tomorrow, while Hoffenheim will be looking to make it three wins from three with a home victory over Bayer Leverkusen to wrap the weekend’s action up.
