Midweek Bundesliga Action: Results, Table

bundesliga-RESULTS-540

Three players hit hat-tricks on Wednesday night as twenty goals flew in during tonight’s six matches, with results putting Schalke back top of the table after Stuttgart had a 24-hour stay at the summit after their win on Tuesday night.

Martin Harnik’s second goal of the season was enough for Stuttgart in Mainz as they leapfrogged from fourth to first on Tuesday, while Hoffenheim picked-up their third win with a 3-0 thrashing of Hannover to lift them into the top six. Frankfurt remain the only side without a win in the top flight after a Massimo Bruno strike earned a point for Freiburg.

On Wednesday though, across the country shook the table up a little. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar hit his seventh and eighth goals in seven appearances for Schalke this season as he put them two-up at Augsburg before Lewis Holtby added a third before the break. The win puts Schalke top, while Augsburg, second on Sunday, slip to seventh.

Stevan Jovetic’s hat-trick for Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park saw them see-off Nürnberg, who scored a late consolation to deny the champions a third clean sheet in four league games, while Joseph Akpala hit a treble on the road as Bremen stunned a woeful Gladbach side 3-0, which sees the home slump to bottom of the table.

An Arjen Robben brace was added to by Javier Hernández’s first goal for Bayern Munich as they comfortably beat Wolfsburg 3-0 at home, and keeps them within a point of second.

Elsewhere, Leverkusen were outdone by an Artjoms Rudnevs hat-trick on his first start of the season. He put Hamburg three-one up, before the visitors lost Stefan Reinartz to a red card moments before conceding a fourth.

Fortuna Düsseldorf were minutes away from a second win of the season, but Fanol Perdedaj rescued a point for Hertha Berlin at home to lift them out of the bottom three, while Düsseldorf remain the only unbeaten side in the division after a win and three draws.

Schalke host Bayern on Saturday. A full weekend preview will be posted on Friday.
