Monthly Dortmund Boardroom Update

The monthly board review has taken place at Signal Iduna Park, and to summarise, the Borussia Dortmund board continue to be pleased with Gray Surman’s management of the team. Fans are highly impressed by Lars Bender’s performances, and are excited about the capture of Stevan Jovetic after his first goals for the club.

However, yesterday’s defeat at Standard Liège was deeply disappointing, and dissatisfaction about the nature of the loss has been voiced by fans and club management, though all remain positive about the chances of progressing from the group. Surman held a team meeting this morning, and the squad were enthusiastic about the next game.

The club recorded a loss of -£361,000 last month, though they club are in a very healthy financial position and the board are very content with the wage bill which comes in £200,000 under budget allowing for a £5m outlay on new personnel.

Dortmund have signed a new kit sponsorship deal, worth £475,000 to the club over each of the next three seasons.

Monthly Turnover: £12.1m
Previous Month: £21.3m
Main Income: £3.77m (Gate Receipts)

Monthly Expenditure: £12.5m
Previous Month: £54.6m
Main Expenditure: £4.76m (Player Wages)

Assistant manager Zeljko Buvac has provided his regular feedback on how the players have been training over the past month. Among the senior players Mario Götze (tactics) and Hervé Matthys (fitness) have impressed the coaching staff with their progress, but slight concerns have been noted about André Schürrle and Lars Bender in fitness sessions.

The same can be said of the youth players, with Marwin Kwerstiens and Ibro Beslija (both fitness), and especially Olaf Moritz (ball control) have all shown great improvement during September.

After the weekend, another international break is upon us with players due to be called up by their national squads in the next day or two ahead of Euro 2016 qualifiers and friendlies. The club play the Revierderby against fiercest rivals Schalke at Signal Iduna Park on Sunday 26th as the potential highlight of the month.
