Daily Dortmund Diary: Thursday 09 October

Gray Surman celebrated his 500th day in charge at Borussia Dortmund by announcing that teenage left-back Wout Devriendt will join from AA Gent in January after the two clubs agreed a £625,000 compensation package for the sixteen year-old. It’s widely believed that Dortmund are also chasing Club Brugge midfielder Jos Verniers.

Dennis Praet played the opening 70 minutes in Belgium U21’s 0-1 friendly defeat at home by Austria, playing very well and almost creating an opening goal early-on. Salzburg striker Oliver Fröschl scored the winner for Austria in the 81st minute.

Mustafa Amini was on the score-sheet as Austrlia U21 won 3-0 in the Faroe Islands tonight. Graham Peach scored twice for the visitors midway through the second-half, before Amini – on loan from Dortmund at Sandhausen – came off the bench and scored a great free-kick in the final two minutes.

Benjamin Bella scored for Germany U19 in their 2-2 friendly draw in Spain, in a repeat of last summer’s UEFA U19 Final. His goal on 33 minutes put Germany 2-1 up. Hendrick Brauer came on as a second-half substitute, but couldn’t prevent a Spanish equaliser.

On Wednesday night, Hervé Matthys was involved in Belgium’s 3-3 draw with Latvia in their opening UEFA U19 Qualifier. Belgium were 3-1 up at home until a late fight-back from Latvia who earned a point with a 91st minute equaliser.
