Five nations are set to submit their official bids to FIFA to host the 2026 World Cup. Bookmakers’ favourites Argentina, who hosted and won in 1978, today confirmed that the AFA will build new stadia in nine cities should their bid be successful.
Egypt and three former hosts are also due to submit bids – Mexico (1986), United States (1994), and South Africa (2010) – with the winning nation being revealed by FIFA in a ceremony in Zurich on 21 July 2015.
Marcel Pröll has completed his takeover of VfB Stuttgart, succeeding former chairman Gerd Mäuser. The five-time Bundesliga champions currently sit fifth after last season’s 13th-placed finish, were beaten 0-5 by Dortmund last time out and host league leaders Hamburg on Friday.
