Felipe Santana has been ruled out for up to six weeks after straining his back during a weights session as part of his regular training routine. BVB’s Head Physio Peter Kuhnt has rejected the idea of a Cortisone injection to enable the defender to play at the weekend, and the club’s physiotherapists will treat the injury.
Santana, 28, made thirty-two appearances last season, but has only made five appearances this season, with Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic being the first-choice centre-back partnership. The club has cover with Hervé Matthys, with Marc Hornschuh on loan at feeder-club Sandhausen.
Reports have emerged that BVB and Club Brugge had agreed a £8m fee defensive midfielder Jos Verniers, but the 19 year-old suffered a serious hip injury during their Europa League draw with Trabzonspor that will see him sidelined until the new year. The transfer was due to be completed in January but it’s understood that the bid has been withdrawn until the player recovers.
The club wishes a happy twentieth birthday to Scott Tanser.
