Daily Diary: Dallas Top MLS, Roda Fire Brood

Daily Diary, Monday 27 October 2014:

FC Dallas have lifted the Supporters’ Shield after finishing the regular MLS season with the best record, sealed on the final day with a 1-0 win over Los Angeles Galaxy thanks to Zach Loyd’s header shortly before half-time.

Galaxy, last year’s MLS Cup runners-up, missed out on the Playoffs with defeat this weekend, as did 2013 Supporters’ Shield-winners Sporting Kansas City who were four points back in the Eastern Conference.

Toronto FC and New York Red Bulls (Eastern), and Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders (Western) will contest the Wildcard matches later this week to see which of each pair enters their Conference Playoffs.

Roda JC have parted company with manager Ruud Brood after two and a half years with the club, following their three-nil defeat at Heracles that left them just above the bottom three on goal difference after just three wins from their opening ten league matches.

Dortmund U19 have been drawn at home to SC Preußen-Münster in the third round of the U19 Junioren-Pokal, set to be played on 30 November, four weeks after the sides meet in the league. The home league game against MSV Duisburg has been brought forward four days to 26 November to accommodate the cup tie.
