Bundesliga: Midweeks, and Weekend Preview

Gladbach left it late to get their second win of the season after looking like they’d let maximum points slip at Freiburg on Tuesday evening, before Nils Petersen nodded home a stoppage time winner to lift them off the bottom of the table. They were replaced by Hannover who lost at Schalke, with the hosts becoming one of three sides atop the table on 28 points ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

Highlight of those has to be Dortmund hosting Bayern on Saturday evening, though the weekend gets underway tomorrow night with Gladbach playing Hertha in an early-season relegation six-pointer.

Schalke are the only team in the top five playing away from home this weekend, and they’ll be without the impressive Julian Draxler after he was stretchered off early on Wednesday night with a hamstring injury. Several clubs across Europe may surely be readjusting their new year shopping lists.
