Seven teams have joined holders Borussia Dortmund in the last eight of this season’s DFB-Pokal, with Regensburg the sole remaining side outside of the top two divisions, following their last-minute 3-2 defeat of Union Berlin at home.
Dortmund progressed last week with a 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, and were joined by fellow top-flight sides Schalke, Leverkusen, and Nürnberg. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar hit a hat-trick as Schalke needed extra-time to see-off second-tier Aachen.
Erzegebirge Aue came from behind to overcome last year’s runners-up Fortuna Düsseldorf in one of the upsets of the night, while Wolfsburg and Hamburg enjoyed victories over fellow 1.Bundesliga sides, with Sebastian Polter hitting a first-half hat-trick to stun Bayern Munich ensuring that the top five are all represented in next week’s Quarter-Final draw.
