Dirk Bauer smashed home a thunderous shot into the top corner with just seventy seconds played for the only goal of the game as Dortmund’s U19 side beat rivals Schalke 1-0 at Stadion Rote Erde this morning.
Josef Bungert found Bauer outside the box with a fine ball on Dortmund’s first attack, and Bauer wasted no time in taking a touch to get the ball out of his feet before lashing it past a stunned Fabian Waltl. Schalke had the more chances throughout, but BVB ‘keeper Daniel Schmadtke was never truly made to work, making just two saves from close-range headers that really should have beaten him for an equaliser.
Rodolfo Borrell’s side was boosted by the presence of first-teamers Hervé Matthys and Samy Bourard, and the former put in a man of the match performance at the back, marshalling the defence to keep a fourth clean sheet in five matches.
Dortmund stay third, but gain ground on Aachen who were held at Gladbach this morning due to a last minute equaliser for the hosts. Leverkusen won 1-0 at Fortuna Köln, and are the next opponents for BVB, away on 11 February.
